Up until fairly recently, yoga was practiced only by those who could devote their entire life to it.  These yogis generally lived in isolation, renouncing worldly possessions, comforts, family, and jobs.  In the early 1900s, yoga began to be introduced to a wider audience by masters who believed that it would be extremely beneficial for ordinary people to learn.  One of these masters was Shri Yogendraji, who founded the Yoga Institute in Mumbai India in 1918, which is the oldest yoga center in the world. Shri Yogendraji believed that yoga should be made available for everyone including men and women who work, raise families, and face life's day to day challenges.  Blue Tortoise Yoga is proud to come from this great lineage of the Yoga Institute. We believe that yoga has something to offer everyone, regardless of age, background, or

      experience.
